Hausdorff moment problem in one and several variables

Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana, Pune is organising a lecture on "Hausdorff moment problem in one and several variables" Prof. Sameer Chavan, IIT (Kanpur)

  • Day and Date: Monday, 23rd December 2024 and Tuesday, 24th December 2024
  • Time: 3:30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
  • Venue: AV Hall, Library Building, Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana, Pune.
  • Topic: Hausdorff moment problem in one and several variables

Abstract: The moment problem is to ask for which sequences of positive real numbers are the moments of a positive measure, and if they are, is the measure unique. If the measure is unique, the problem is called determinate and if not, indeterminate. Depending on whether one restricts to have support on a particular set, we have Hamburger moment problem (real line), Stieltjes moment problem (nonnegative real line) and Hausdorff moment problem (finite interval in the nonnegative real line). In these lectures, we discuss the uniqueness of these moment problems and also solution of the Hausdorff moment problem in one and several variables..

All are cordially invited to attend the lecture.
