Abstract: |
A magic square constructed by numbering the cells of the square in the sequence of a chess knight’s moves is called a “Magic Knight’s Tour”. This is a topic known for decades if not for centuries. The first such tour was published by William Beverly in 1848, for the standard 8x8 chessboard. In such a magic square, the diagonals do not add to the magic total and therefore the square is called a semi-magic square. In addition to the 140 “basic” magic tours, i.e., 2,240 “derived” tours, claimed to be the maximum number of magic tours possible; this author has found 196 more basic magic tours (3,136 derived tours); taking the total to 336 basic and 5,376 derived magic tours. |
