On the occasion of the first International meeting of the American Mathematical Society in India organised by the Indian Academy of Sciences and Indian National Science Academy at Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore from December 17-21, the Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana felt it would be an ideal opportunity to further its interest in the spread of computational and combinatorial methods in commutative algebra.

AFS being organised in Pune in June 2006 is the Second of the 2nd Annual Foundation Schools being organised on behalf of NBHM.

AIS-DGLG being organised in Pune in December 2006 is the Advanced Instructional School on Differential Geometry and Lie Groups being organised on behalf of NBHM.

Advanced Training School in Mathematics for Lecturers (ATML) in Complex Analysis is being organised in Pune at Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana in May 2007 on behalf of NBHM.

In the past twenty/thirty years, the geometry and topology of low dimensional manifolds have seen major developments. These developments also have direct inputs from theoretical physics, for example from quantum field theories and string theory. The Ricci flow, introduced by Hamilton, and its use by Perelman for the proof of the Poincare Conjecture has been one of the major advances in this area in recent times. A generalization of the Poincare Conjecture is the Geometrization Conjecture of Thurston, which proposed special Riemannian geometries for all compact 3-manifolds. It is also claimed to be proved by the Ricci Flow Techniques. A special case of Haken manifolds was already proved independently by very different techniques coming from Teichmuller Theory. There will be special lectures on topics in Riemann surfaces, quasiconformal mappings, Kleinian groups and Teichmullar theory.

Advanced Instructional School on Combinatorics and Graph Theory (AIS-CGT) is being organised in Pune in May 2009 sponsored by NBHM.
