Title: Abhyankar's work on rings of maximal embedding dimension and later developments

Abstract: In his 1967 paper, Abhyankar proved that the embedding dimension of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring is bounded above by d+e-1 where d is the Krull dimension and e is the multiplicity of R. If equality holds then we say that R has maximal embedding dimension.

We shall discuss theorems of Lipman and Rees which assert that rational and pseudo-rational local rings of dimension 2 have maximal embedding dimension. We will prove a Theorem of Huneke and Sally: The Rees algebra of a complete ideal of a two-dimensional regular local ring has maximal embedding dimension.

Title: Introduction to quadrature domains

Abstract: Domains on which integrable holomorphic functions satisfy a generalized mean value inequality are called quadrature domains. This will be an elementary introduction to this class of domains.
