Here is a description of some of the talks he will be giving. *Title: Local Fields* *Date & Time:* Meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in September 5-6pm in W302 *Description:* These lectures are aimed at undergraduate students (4th, 5th and advanced 3rd year students). Local Fields are important objects in Algebra and Number Theory. They are obtained by completing the rational numbers with respect to a different metric than the usual one. The prerequisites for this course are linear algebra and some basic knowledge of rings and fields. *Title: Local galois representations and the Langlands program* *Date & Time:* 8/9/2011 4pm W302 *Abstract:* I will discuss basic structural features of the absolute Galois group of a local number field, will recall the shape of the classical local Langlands correspondence, and will review the basic features of the theory of p-adic Galois representations. *Title: p-adic Banach space representations* *Date & Time:* 15/9/2011 4pm W302 *Abstract:* I will discuss the problems which arise when one wants to set up a theory of continous p-adic representations of p-adic Lie groups and will explain their solution in the framework of p-adic Banach space representations. There will also be a Colloquium aimed the general audience which will be announced later. -- Anupam __________________________________________________ Dr. Anupam Kumar Singh (Assistant Professor) Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) 1st floor, Central Tower, Sai Trinity Building, Pashan Circle, Sutarwadi, Pune 411021 India http://anupamk18.googlepages.com Ph.
