Proposed Syllabus, Textbook and Speakers

The syllabus will be the basic algebraic theory of affine and projective varieties over algebraically closed fields.

The lectures will follow the first chapter of the textbook `Algebraic Geometry' by R. Hartshorne, with suitable modifications. The above book is a standard textbook internationally, also available in an Indian print. The selected students will be asked to begin their study of the Chapter I of the book ahead of coming to the School, and they will be able to continue their study of the book after the School. The book has enough exercises, and helping students to solve them will be a major part of the tutorial sessions.

The speakers will be Jishnu Biswas (ISI Bangalore), Amit Hogadi (TIFR Mumbai) and Nitin Nitsure (TIFR Mumbai).
